Capturing Wedding Magic on 35mm Film
In the age of digital photography, there’s something uniquely enchanting about the nostalgic appeal of 35mm film. Recently, I had the pleasure of using this timeless medium to capture some magic on my film cameras.
Why 35mm Film on a Wedding Day?
I love film. Always have. A wind-up crappy dollar store film camera is the very first camera I ever owned and some of those images are still ones I cherish the most from my childhood. So, when I found my Mom’s old Canon AE1 I decided to play around. What I learned through some experimenting is that 35mm film offers a distinctive aesthetic that digital cameras struggle to replicate. Its grainy texture, rich color depth, and organic imperfections lend a sense of nostalgia and artistry to each photograph. For weddings, where every moment is both special and fleeting, film provides a beautifully authentic and timeless quality. It also forces me to slow down and evaluate light differently even on the busiest of wedding days.
The Experience
35mm film is just an added bonus! I still primarily rely on my wonderful digital cameras for their reliability and dependency. The images I capture on wedding days with my film cameras are a beautiful artful bonus to my clients wedding gallery. The film’s ability to capture light and shadow with such nuance made the images feel warm and intimate, perfectly reflecting the day’s emotions and celebrations.
