Eloping in the Florida Keys:

When it comes to tying the knot, many couples seek a unique and intimate experience that reflects their personalities. For those dreaming of a romantic, yet simple ceremony, a Key West courthouse elopement can be the ideal pick. Here’s everything you need to know about planning a Key West courthouse elopement that captures the essence of your love story.

Why Choose Key West?

Key West is renowned for its stunning sunsets, vibrant culture, and picturesque landscapes. The island’s laid-back vibe and tropical ambiance make it an ideal setting for couples looking to escape the traditional wedding format. With its historic architecture, a courthouse elopement allows you to say “I do” in a truly memorable location.

Tips For a Key West Courthouse Wedding:

The Monroe County Courthouse, located in the heart of Old Town, is a beautiful venue for a simple ceremony. This historic building, dating back to 1890, features charming architecture and a beautiful Banyan Tree providing a picturesque backdrop for your ceremony.

What to Expect

  1. Simple Process: The elopement process at the courthouse is straightforward. You’ll need to obtain a marriage license, which can be done in advance or on the day of your ceremony.
  2. Ceremony Details: Once you have your license, you can schedule a brief ceremony inside the courthouse. The officiant will guide you through the process, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
  3. Fun Details Outside: Once you’ve officially tied the knot inside the courthouse you are welcome to celebrate outside with your family and friends or exchanger personal vows on the steps of the historic courthouse.

Courthouse Ceremony & Celebration

Sarah and Hunter initially planned to elope. After a few conversations with family and friends, they decided to invite a handful of their closest loved ones to celebrate their special day with a Key West courthouse elopement!

They married inside the courthouse but exchanged private vows in front of their family and friends. After the ceremony, they headed to the Green Parrot for cocktails to celebrate their love before walking to Garrison Bight Marina for their sunset sail!

What to do After ‘I Do’?

Once my couples say ‘I Do’ I always recommend a celebration that best suits their love story! Here are my top celebration tips:

Plan a Sunset Sail

Sunset Experience: A sunset sail in Key West is a must! Whether you want romance or a lively party, there’s something for everyone.

  • Best Party Sail: Fury Water Sports’ Commotion on the Ocean offers live music, unlimited drinks, and tasty snacks—a true party atmosphere!
  • Most Romantic Cruise: Argo Navis features a stunning catamaran with a luxury sunset sail that feels more private than typical party boats.
  • True Romantic Sunset: Danger Charters offers a sip-and-sail sunset cruise on a historic sailboat, providing a unique and intimate experience.

Private Oceanic Experiences

For a more personal touch, consider a private sunset, fishing charter, or snorkeling adventure. Key West has plenty of options to explore the beautiful surroundings. Let me know your preferences, and I’d be happy to help plan your ideal experience!

Dinner & Drinks

End your wedding day with a delightful dinner at one of Key West’s best spots:

  • Latitudes: Located on Sunset Key, enjoy a sunset dinner with breathtaking ocean views.
  • Louie’s Backyard: One of my favorites for a relaxed dinner and drinks.
  • Four Marlins: This restaurant at the Reach Resort offers a unique private beach experience—romantic and delicious.
  • 915 Point Five: Perfect for food and people-watching right on Duval Street. It’s lively and fun for a carefree evening!

Making It Your Own

Elopements can be as simple or elaborate as you desire. Consider adding floral arrangements, a celebratory cake, or a fun theme that reflects your relationship.

Celebration Recap!

Sarah and Hunter’s special day was truly magical! It was an honor to capture their “I Do” moments during the Commotion on the Ocean Sunset Sail with Fury Watersports, surrounded by family and friends. Following the big day, they later told me they had the best time partying the night away with their loved ones.

Congratulations these two!
