Hemingway & His Home
Hemingway Home Wedding is the perfect backdrop for a unique and historic celebration. Prolific author, journalist, drinker, and womanizer, Ernest Hemingway was known for many things. In Key West, he is a legend, particularly for writing some of his most iconic novels in his mansion just off Whitehead Street, steps away from Duval.
This beautiful historic home hosts daily tours and is home to six-toed cats, all of whom are distantly related to Hemingway’s famous Tom cat. For those seeking a memorable Key West experience, tying the knot at the Hemingway Home is truly iconic!
Enter Jordan & Jacob
These two lovebirds call Florida home but adore visiting Key West for the same reasons Hemingway did: fishing, heat, turquoise waters, lively bars, and fun!
When planning their magical wedding, they knew they wanted to marry at Hemingway’s old home.
I love working at this iconic property, with its expansive grounds, lush tropical greenery, charming cats, and historical architecture—what’s not to love?
When Jordan researched photographers and found Meandering Media, she knew our film aesthetic matched the vibe she wanted to create.

So here’s how it went!
Getting ready coverage should be fun! So I try to take more of a documentary approach so I can capture as many candid moments as possible. But honestly holding a camera can make me less than discrete and I love to laugh so I try to keep the mood light and keep people laughing. Fortunately with Jordan and her girls, there was plenty of laughter to be found!

How to get the best getting ready photos?
“Getting Ready” pictures should really be called “Behind the Scenes of the Big Day” . Those moments before the ceremony often become the most candid for my clients. But photos serve as memories that often outlast our recollections!
The key to capturing the best ‘getting ready’ photos is to carve out enough time in your timeline so no one feels ‘rushed’ to ‘hurry up and relax’ for photos. I carved out about 45 minutes for both Jacob and then Jordan to capture some wedding day details and pictures with their friends and family.

Oh and did I mention film?!
I LOVE the way 35mm film has such a nostalgic feel to it. Over the years I’ve adjusted my editing style to naturally reflect some of the feelings film has. In 2023 and 2024 I started to add film to my packages. This means my clients get the best of both worlds!
And some of the 35mm film captures from this day were some of my favorites.

Rules about Hemingway Home
Do you remember how I said the Hemingway Home is a museum by day and wedding venue (occasionally) by night? The museum closes at 5:00pm which means wedding festivities don’t start until after the museum closes, just before ceremony!
After everyone got ready, they headed to Hemingway Home for the ceremony!

Spectacularly Sentimental Ceremony

Happily Ever After…
After ceremony, I always take my couples around the property for some portraits so they can enjoy a moment of privacy as newly weds before all the fun and festivities really begin!

And I love love love some dainty details!
Fun fact about Jordan (our Bride)– she specializes in organizing corporate events so she actually put together all the wedding day details. Her vision was to have playful flowers along all the table settings. She achieved her goal flawlessly. It was so fun and playful to photograph!

Perks of Reception:
For me, the reception at Hemingway Home is the most enjoyable part to capture. People truly let loose and forget about the camera. I love photographing those moments! Genuine laughter, fun, and joy, and they really shine when everyone is focused on simply having a good time!

Rain? No problem.
There was some rain in the forecast for Jacob and Jordan. In the Keys that usually means it will pass by so the couple didn’t want to obstruct the beautiful views by incorporating a tent. So when it started to rain– everyone just gathered under the Hemingway Home porch and the party continued!
Overall an amazing night and experience with these two wonderful people!
